PbFilms was kind enough to send me a copy of their latest paintball DVD, Shoot Kill Die to review. My first impression on their company was a positive one. However, I won’t apply this to the review. I’m going to try to review this DVD unbiased. Now, let’s get on to the review.
First Impressions:
When I first popped in the DVD, I was impressed by the graphic effort put into the DVD menu. It caught my attention and only wanted me to watch it more ïŠ. So I did.
The DVD opened up with fast-action shots, fast pans, zooms, and other fast-paced clips. The beginning is awesome. My first impression of this DVD made me realize PbFilm’s effort to provide quality paintball movies.
Footage:
The footage filmed was in HD (high definition) quality. You can literally see the string of paintballs fly across the field at 15 bps. The footage has all the major teams performing their best and worst. Dynasty, Naughty Dogs, XSV, Ironmen, Aftershock… all are in there either jumping over and bunkering their opposing team, or fighting with the refs and flicking off the crowd. Good stuff.
There’s a good balance between the seriousness of the tournaments and the fun of the sport. You’ll see angry fights between players and refs. In one instance, the ref pulled a player from the back of the field and pulled his mask up. The player got pissed for obvious reasons and decided to light the ref up. I don’t want to ruin the rest for you, but its good stuff. My favorite shots, personally, include quarrels and fights between players and refs. There’s plenty there, plenty of threats, and plenty of profanity.
Editing:
One thing in this DVD I really liked was their editing skills. Their editing can be compared to, if not a little better than, Derder and Monkey-With-A-Gun. I’ve seen almost every paintball video production’s DVDs, and PbFilm’s editing has really stood out. Their zoom, tilts, pans, slow motions, flickering lights, and sound effects really bring the footage to reality. It’s the little stuff like this that matters, and PbFilms knows this.
Music:
The music, like all paintball DVD’s, was pretty decent. The music in the background won’t be recognizable to most of us, but it goes well with the footage and that’s all that matters. You can tell PbFilms did a good job recruiting the bands for the DVD.
Conclusion:
Supposedly, this DVD took two years to make. In those two years, they’ve condensed the footage into less than two hours of jam-packed action. Because of this, there wasn’t one dry spot in the DVD (that I could find). I was never bored; there was always something to keep your eye on. The bunkering shots and angles are amazing, especially with its quality.

• Sweet bunker footage
• Fast paced DVD – Great for pumping yourself up before a tournament or game.
I’ve seen almost every paintball production’s latest DVD releases and Shoot Kill Die is definitely comparable to these, if not above them. I Shoot Kill Die a good 9/10. This DVD is definitely worth the buy.
